Today, I am testing my Minolta lens for what is the optimal aperture. You will see my lens there are only 6 stops, however, when I turn, there is half stop between f5.6 - f16, it means totally there are 9 stops.

This lens is said to be the Leica company buy this model since its excellent optical performance. As a 35-70mm, I try all 9 stops, but I guess f5.6 is optimal aperture already for me.
The aperture I describe as f3.5 | 5.6 | 5.6+ | 8 | 8+ | 11 | 11+ | 16 | 22
while the symbol "+" is half stop.
All photos below using 1/125s ISO160

You can see the area inside red circle with chromatic aberration effect, but after I close down to 1 stop is disappear already.

| f5.6 |

| f5.6+ |
 |
| f8 |
Normally depends on what type of lens you use, as prime lens, I may even try half to 1 stop depends on the quality of the lens, while zoom lens, 1 stop is a must especially shooting object with back light.
